Experience the authentic traditions and history of Dominica’s indigenous Kalinago people with a visit to the picturesque village of Touna Aute. Your journey begins with a transfer through spectacular jungle landscapes to the village located on the banks of the Pagua River. Once you’ve arrived, your local host will provide educational commentary on the history and culture of the Kalinago, or Carib, people before leading you on a walking tour through the village’s residential homes. During this tour, you’ll learn firsthand about Kalinago cuisine, sustainable agricultural practices, handicrafts, and herbal medicine, all while getting a glimpse of daily life in the village today. You’ll also have the opportunity to sample homemade Cassava bread and learn about local flora and fauna, perhaps even spotting a rare Jaco parrot. You’ll return to your ship with an enlightened perspective on traditional ways of life in the Caribbean.
